I have a brother printer that works when you need it, after a while I tried printing a document and I get this big pop up LOW TONER! I ignored the pop up since I was still printing black on white without fading as it always did, until the day came and it wouldn’t print since the toner is empty.

searching even more I found that you can override the setting that restricts the printing from printing until you are forced to replace the toner, and that’s what I did and I was able to print a calendar and many other documents that printed black as if it was a full cartridge.
Please follow the steps below related to your printer model:
For HL Series (2130, 2220, 2230, 2240, 2250, 2270),
a. With the power on, open the front cover.
b. Turn the printer off.
c. Press and Hold the ‘GO’ Button while turning the printer on.
d. All LED light should be on.
e. Release the ‘GO’ Button
f. Press the ‘GO’ Button 2 times.
g. Pause 10 seconds.
h. Press the ‘GO’ Button 5 times.
i. The TONER LED light should be off.
j. The ERROR LED light should be on or flashing.
k. Close the cover. The READY LED light should be the only one that is on.
l. Turn off the printer.
m. Turn on the printer and your printer is ready to print.
For MFC Series (7360, 7460, 7470, 7860),
a. Open Front Cover
b. Press ‘CLEAR/BACK’.
c. LCD Screen will show ‘Replace Drum? 1.Yes 2.No’.
d. Press * 0 0 (The keys has to be entered quickly and in order).
e. Press ‘OK’.
f. LCD Screen will show ‘Accepted’ or ‘Cover is open’.
g. Close the cover and your printer is ready to print.
For HL-2280 & DCP Series (7055, 7057, 7060, 7062, 7070),
a. Open Front Cover
b. Press ‘CLEAR/BACK’.
c. Press ‘Start’.
d. Press ‘Down’ or ‘Down Arrow’.
e. Press ‘Up’ or ‘Up Arrow’.
f. LCD Screen will show ‘0 0’.
g. Press ‘OK’.
h. Close the cover and your printer is ready to print.
These steps will allow you to continue printing with the same cartridge until the cartridge is physically empty.
